The Stone Cottage is a spacious 4,000 square foot home dating back to the 1800s. Inside the cottage, up to six guests can be comfortably accommodated with each room featuring its own ensuite bathroom. Guests will find a private living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a dedicated dining space.
Originally designed by New York architect Detlef Lienau, The Stone Cottage was built to house Matthew Wilks Esq’s large family while they waited for the completion of the manor’s extensive renovations. Thereafter it served as the Farm Manager’s home, Mr. Weatherall. In the following generation it became home to Mr. Wilks’ two granddaughters. In those years, women of means often chose not to marry to ensure their independence and keep their property within their original family. Their time was dedicated to the property’s rhythm and to local charity work.
